How to make store-like ice cream at home

01/8Homemade ice cream recipes

In this scorching heat, we are always craving for something chilled and tasty. Ice cream is such a delicious and savoury dessert which is loved by everyone. You never get old to have some ice cream; whether you are a kid or an adult, you can never say no to your favourite ice cream.

02/8Loaded with fat

Though it is irresistible but, ice cream made at the stores contains high fat and sugar. Milk fat is largely cholesterol, a saturated fat. When your blood cholesterol level is too high, it can build up as plaque, a fatty deposit in your arteries that interferes with blood flow and raises your risk of heart disease and stroke.

03/8High in sugar

Ice cream is also high in sugar, which makes up the majority of its carbohydrate content. Consumption of too much sugar may contribute to health problems such as weight gain, cavities and increased levels of blood triglycerides, another unhealthy type of fat. Ice cream may cause problems for certain people because it is dairy-based and contains lactose, a milk sugar. These individuals, referred to as lactose-intolerant, are deficient in lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose, and may experience digestive issues if they consume ice cream.

04/8Using healthy ingredients

To solve the problem, you can make ice cream of your favourite flavour at home. It is beneficial as you can add low fat milk, make it sugar free or add less sugar, instead of using artificial colours and flavours you can add natural flavours to it. If you are lactose-intolerant, you can replace ice cream with a similar frozen product made with soy milk or another dairy substitute.

05/8Creamy vanilla ice cream

This vanilla ice cream is super creamy and rich in taste. These particular proportions of milk and cream to egg yolk will give you a thick but not sticky ice cream that feels decadent but not heavy
Ingredients
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
⅔ cup sugar
⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt
6 large egg yolks
Your choice of flavoring
Method
In a small pot, simmer heavy cream, milk, sugar and salt until sugar completely dissolves, about 5 minutes. Remove pot from heat. In a separate bowl, whisk the yolks. Whisking constantly, slowly whisk about a third of the hot cream into the yolks, then whisk the yolk mixture back into the pot with the cream. Return pot to medium-low heat and gently cook until mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon (about 170 degrees on an instant-read thermometer).
