Home remedies to heal your kid’s skin wounds

Minor scrapes, cuts and bruises are a part of everyone’s childhood. Here are some home remedies that can be used to heal these superficial wounds. However, seek medical help immediately if the injuries are more severe.

For Bruises: If your child comes home with a bruise, apply an ice pack for half an hour to reduce the swelling. It will also help get rid of the pain. If there is a swelling on the lips, offer your child an ice cube to suck on. Don’t press on or massage a bruise.

For cuts and scrapes: Make sure you immediately remove dirt and germs using soap and water on the cut. Do not use alcohol-based ointment or peroxide, which can harm the skin tissue and also sting. Apply pressure with a clean cloth for five to 10 minutes to stop any bleeding. You can also apply turmeric to stop the bleeding.

For minor burns: If your kid cries in pain because he/she got a minor burn from touching a hot vessel, run cool water over the burnt skin for about 10 minutes. Ensure that you stay away from applying ice or other ointments. Do not rub the burn. Cover it with a clean gauze pad and visit the doctor if the swelling persists.
