Healthy bathroom habits that parents must teach their kids

If your child is one, it’s time you started telling him/her how important it is to be clean and hygienic. Healthy bathroom practices are as important as eating the right food and going to bed on time. Here are three habits kids need to cultivate…

Wash hands

Did you know that not washing hands before eating can lead to infections, and at times, even diarrhoea? Get your kids to wash their hands with soap or a hand wash for at least 30 seconds. Rinsing well and dabbing the hands on a clean towel are also equally important. Washing after using the bathroom, before eating and after playing will help prevent children from contracting infections.

Brush regularly

Babies start teething when they are six months and by the time they are one, their dental system is almost developed. Teach them why it’s important to brush their teeth after every meal. Start by using your index finger and pressing their gums to aid circulation. As they grow older, educate them on the right way to brush — clean the outer surfaces of upper and lower teeth, then the inner surface. Move to the chewing part and then the tongue. Brushing for two minutes after every meal will keep oral problems at bay.

Flush and then clean

If you have already potty trained your child, teach them how to flush as well. We must teach kids how to wash after relieving themselves, especially their private parts. The routine should also include washing hands and feet before coming out.
