Give your kid a happy summer holiday

The long endless summer vacations are nearly over and your kids are probably getting restless at home. While children do enjoy the freedom and lazy days that come with the vacations, they still like to have a little structure to their fun. Why not make this most of this free time and indulge in some fun family activities.

Take them to the zoo

Visiting the zoo can be a lot of fun. Not only will you get a little bit of exercise walking around the place, you will also have the opportunity to learn about animals with your children which will be useful when they’re studying them later.

Go for a one-day hiking or trekking trip

If your child is the adventurous kind, this is a great idea. There are companies that organise short one-day trips to the National park. Go birdwatching, hiking or simply bond with your child under the stars.

Play a game

Get your kid to gather up a group of his/her friends and play a game with them. Basketball, throwball or even tag. This way your kid will have fun and get some exercise.

Have a family night

This is for the whole family. Dig out the board games that have been sitting in the cupboard for ages and play some trivia ones. These can be educative as well as exciting. Movie night is another great way for the family to spend the evening together. Rent a family movie, make some popcorn and have everyone watch together. Animation flicks are a good option.

Bake together

Reveal the little chef in your child. Decide on something that your kids will like — chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cakes can be easy and delicious as well. Let your child participate in the mixing and decorating process. He/she will love the experience and learn much as well.

Have fun with water

There is no better way to beat the heat than with water. If you have a big terrace, set up a paddle pool for your kids. Alternately you can take them for a swim. Water parks are another fun option.

Do art work together

Buy a bunch of art supplies and make cards and bookmarks. Anything creative that will be fun for the kids. You can let them paint, draw, learn papier mache or even have fun with clay.

Grow a plant

Kids love to watch things grow. Why not buy a tiny pot with mud and plant it with your kids? Teach them to water it everyday, and they can see it grow through the year.

Have a treasure hunt

Keep your kids busy for hours with a fun treasure hunt. The idea is to create a series of clues that the kids will have to follow to get to a little prize in the end. You can set it up in your building itself.

Keep a journal

Sit down together at the end of each day with your kid and write down what you have done through the day. You can stick pictures that you have taken and help your child make it colourful and bright with drawings. This will be a sweet keepsake for when he/she is older.
